Spey Lodge

Update

With the main running season underway, Lodge usage is close to the maximum each weekend (and some nights during the week). However, we have managed to makements, mainly thanks to Dave Dow's efforts progress on the planned improve. Everything we do at Spey Lodge is self-funded from the room takings and the hard work of the users.

Room 22 has been completed and is back in regular use. The final part of the work (resealing the toilet floor) was completed, and a new heater was also installed in the room itself. Room 25 still needs a bit of work, but the adjoining bathroom is now available as an additional toilet. External works on the chimney above room 25 have been completed. The brickwork was in extremely poor condition and has been extensively repaired and repointed. The chimney pots were also loose, so naturally, they were done at the same time. The brickwork was then re-sealed with new coats of masonry paint, which also improved the look of the roofline. It has yet to be tested with some heavy and prolonged rain, but if this is a typical Scottish Summer, that will soon happen!

We’re still awaiting the full independent fire safety audit report, but the consultant has discussed the required improvements and many of these have already been done. Two new fire doors have been fitted, one in room 25 and the other at the entrance to the main electrical cupboard. Work on the suggested improvements to the emergency lighting should start in early August – we’re just waiting for the parts to arrive.
